and here is the final nail in the coffin, that i was hoping jobs would get in leopard. but it does make more sense coming from parallels, from a legal standpoint if nothing else.

update: probably won't be built-in to leopard.

doubt it. like me, you assume everyone is as smart/willing to change as us. change scares a lot of people who are pretty darn smart. i suspect that at most, it'll increase the marketshare slightly - but at the end, people will just stick with windows. oh well...

true, people are unwilling to change. but the whole point of this is that the change becomes transparent. within a year, the huge divide between "mac" and "pc" will be a lot smaller, and one of these camps will be strictly superior to the other.

So if Apple is now built on x86 and BootCamp runs Windows what's the benefit of running Windows on a Windows only computer? In other words, what's the difference between running windows in bootcamp and just on a plain old x86?

Not too much. Going through bootcamp adds a little overhead, but that overhead is only going to decrease with time. Windows on BootCamp is strictly better.

Well... I disagree on two things - 1) the change is not transparent; 2) not sure your year is long enough. But let's say both those are true. You and I know and agree that the Mac OS is superior. How does Joebloke on the street know it? As far as he's concerned, it's more expensive to buy a Mac - and on top of it, he has to buy a copy of Windows! (Strictly speaking, this is not the case, but once ingrained...
