Facebook integration

For those who use Facebook (I think that includes just about everybody who reads my blog anyway): I didn't really like the way the Notes application pushed blog updates into Facebook - it allowed for commenting on any "note", which included both posts and user comments from my blog. This had the potential to get really confusing, and it was just generally icky... so I wrote my own little Facebook application to display posts/comments on my profile and publish the appropriate stories to my mini-feed.

An additional benefit from this is that although only publicly-visible posts will be displayed in the box on my profile, mini-feed stories will be published for all posts (including my members-only or friends-only posts). It probably sounds kinda confusing, but I'm happier with the way it's working now.. assuming it's working correctly :)

Now if only I could do the same with LJ...

What do you mean "do the same with LJ?" I've known a few people that have their LJ accounts set up to mirror their blogs elsewhere. The LJ users lmdemasi, scwleung, and krease have all done it. I would guess that they have their homebrew blogging scripts do a POST that impersonates the LJ Update Journal page.

Yeah, I could do that, but the comments wouldn't work the same way. If I allow LJ-commenting on the posts, then there's going to be two indepedent threads of comments, which I don't want. If I disallow LJ-commenting, then I can't think of a way to indicate new comments on the LJ (I could just render comments as new "posts" on the LJ, but then it's no different than the RSS thing now).

Well, you could just do a separate RSS feed for comments (like WordPress), and do the LJ integration thing anyway. I guess the only advantage would be members-only and friends-only posts on LJ, though.

Hmm.. I might do that. First I want to get a bunch of other stuff out of the way, though. This change is actually just a small part of a backend overhaul I'm doing right now.
