i finally caved and hooked up my engmail/csmail through opera's mail client. up until now i've been reluctant to switch to a non-web-based mail interface because i figured it would be harder to keep in sync. after a month or so of using opera's m2 client for gmail, newsfeeds, and newsgroups, i don't think i could live without it. figuratively, of course.

although for some reason i couldn't get SMTP working on engmail/csmail. there's a bunch of caveats listed in an MFCF FAQ, but even accounting for that, i couldn't get it to take my outgoing mail. so finally i just used the gmail SMTP server to route my mail. works just as well. and probably better, since my connection to gmail is TLS'd.

smtp.gmail.com, port 587. you have to enable pop access from your gmail options before you can use pop/smtp, though.

that's configurable in the mail client you're using. my from doesn't list the gmail account (although if you look at the full headers, you'll see it originated from a gmail cloud).

how do you configure it in opera mail? My from and reply to addresses are set. I don't see other options in the manage accoutns dialog box.

My smtp email wouldn't work from mozilla until I set the "use secure connection" setting to "If available". Neither yes nor no will work for some reason.
