And here are the contenders for round 1c of CerealWars: Kellogg's All-Bran Bran Flakes, and Jordans Morning Crisp.
CerealWars Round 1c
The winner, by the biggest margin so far, is Jordans. Right when I picked it up in the store, I knew something about it was different. Maybe it was the fact that the box took up 45% less volume than the Kellogg's box, while still providing 5% more actual cereal by weight. How is this possible, you ask? Doesn't it defy the laws of physics? Why, not at all! It just means the people at Kellogg's are in the business of selling you air, not cereal! But let us put aside the fact that the Kellogg's box is larger in every dimension except the one that matters. I'm sure we can find other things to mock it for.
Such as... the picture! Take a look at the pictures above. As is customary of overpriced garbage cereals, the Kellogg's box shows their cereal in a bowl with some sort of fruit, in this case blueberries. Alas, upon opening the box and pouring out some cereal, the blueberries were nowhere to be found. Believe me, I looked. It was very sad, but then imagine my joy when I poured out the Jordans cereal and there were actual bits of strawberry inside! Just like on the picture! Truly, it was a sight to behold.
I should also mention as an aside that the Jordans box is the first cereal box I have encountered where the flap thingy at the top actually closes perfectly ever single time. With regular cereal boxes the cardboard is too stiff and it's usually a pain to insert the flap into the slot it's supposed to go in. Not so with the Jordans box; it's made of some different material that's actually suited for the purpose it's used for.
As if all that wasn't enough, the Morning Crisp cereal tasted better in just about every way. When you pour the cereal out of the box it's kind of lumpy and irregular, but it has a great texture when you stick it in your mouth. It's granola-ish, but it doesn't fall apart in the milk, just sort of breaks into bite-sized chunks. And the strawberry bits practically come alive in the milk. The whole experience is pretty darn awesome.
The All-Bran Bran Flakes, on the other hand, tasted reasonable but got soggy pretty fast. Also a lot of the flakes were really oversized crumbs and were annoying to fish out of the milk. That's really all I have to say about that.
I expect this Morning Crisp cereal to go pretty far in CerealWars, and if you're in the mood to try a new cereal I wholeheartedly recommend it.

After much anticipation, the second battle of CerealWars™®© has been completed! I know it took a while, but for a while I didn't feel like eating cereal, and then I ran out of milk, and so on... anyway, I have finished two more cereals:
CerealWars Round 1b
This was a close one. I didn't consider either of the cereals particularly good. In fact, they were both mediocre. It was just a matter of deciding which was more mediocre than the other.
The oatmeal crisp tasted weird. At least, it did initially. It was probably the maple nut flavouring. But after the first couple of bowls I got used to the flavour and it didn't bother me. I didn't particularly like it either, though. The persistently annoying thing about this cereal was that the flakes were too sharp and hard. Not sharp enough to do any damage to the inside of my mouth, but sharp enough to be annoying. Leaving them soaked in the milk for a couple of minutes helped a bit, but not much. The cereal also tended to get wedged in my molars.
The life cereal was pretty much the total opposite. It tasted decent, but the cereal tended to get soggy really fast. After half a minute in milk, the flakes completely lost their original shape and texture. I'll give them credit for clumping together when soggy rather than decomposing and making the milk all murky. After I scooped out the clumps of soggy flakes the milk was clear enough to drink easily. All in all the sogginess was a much better behaved sogginess than I've experienced in the past.
So the winner? Life.

So, since there was such a rabid response to my Facebook proclamation that I would determine the best cereal once and for all, I have decided to blog my cereal battles for everybody to follow along (and also for myself to keep track). I've spawned off another sub-blog for it. The first battle is here and in general you can see all the cereal battles at this URL (also has it's own RSS feed). Enjoy!

The first battle of CerealWars™®© has been completed! You probably didn't even know it had started, but whatever. The contenders:
CerealWars Round 1a
The winner here by a large margin was Peace. Whoever decided that cranberries were good in cereal should never be allowed to create cereals again. They're too chewy, particularly with milk, and totally gum up your mouth, ruining the entire experience. Whatever other bits of stuff was in the Optimum cereal was far too hard and made chewing a pain.
The Peace cereal wasn't perfect either, but it was much better. The almonds definitely go well with milk, but the mix of "crispy corn flakes and oat clusters" was a little too crumbly for my liking. After I was done scooping the major spoonfuls of cereal, there were still lots of little bits of stuff floating around in the milk, which I don't like. Still, on the whole it was pretty yummy.
Tune in next time for more cereal battles!
